Integrate Facebook custom audiences with Rule

En anpassad målgrupp is an ad targeting option that helps advertisers find existing audiences among Facebook users.

You can use sources such as customer lists, website, app traffic or Facebook interaction to create custom audiences across people who already know about your business.

You can create up to 500 custom audiences per ad account.

When you're ready to expand your business, use your custom audience to create a lookalike audience. Lookalike audiences are lists of people who are similar to the people who currently interact with your business and to whom you want to target advertising.

About integration

With Rule's integration with Facebook audiences, you can click on the "Connect" button inside a segment in Rule . Then active members in the segment will end up in a new customized target group in Facebook Audiences.  

Example of segmentation from Rule to Facebook Target groups could be members who have not shopped for 120 days, by creating a target group of these members you can then reach them in more channels than email and SMS.


For the integration to work, you need to have a Facebook business account with Ads Manager connected. If you have multiple business accounts connected to Facebook Ads Manager, you will choose which account to connect in the login step. 

When sending an audience to Facebook for the first time, you need to log in to your Facebook Business account and accept the terms below.

Create segments

  1. Hover your mouse over "Members"
  2. Then click on "Segment"

  1. Click on "Connect external audience"
  2. Then "Connect" on Facebook audiences

When you connect Rule and Facebook, the members are transferred immediately and you get a notification that the export has been successful. If there are a large number of members (100,000 or more), it may take a few minutes.

When you log in to and clicks through to "Target groups" is where the newly created target group is located, if you click on it you can see the number of rows (members) from the segment. 

How often can you update?

We use the replace list when updating as it does not affect any current campaigns you may have running. This means that each update has to be worked through by Facebook and can take up to 24 hours before a new list can be posted.We will display a message that the Target Group is not ready for update if it is being updated. 

You can also see the status under Facebook Audiences by clicking on Audiences -> Actions -> Edit. If "Replace customers" is gray, it means that Facebook is working on the changes from Rule. If you need a new updated audience when an older one is being worked on, we recommend creating a new segment. Keep in mind that changes to audiences can take up to 48 hours to be reflected in campaigns according to Facebook.


All data sent to Facebook is encrypted with  SHA256 Algorithm. You can read more about how Facebook beskriver the encryption of user information 


If a target group does not want to be transferred from Rule to the Facebook Business account, you can try to create a target group manually in Facebook and import test members.
