Automations for e-commerce

In this article, we will go through different automations that you can easily set up after connecting your e-commerce to Rule. In this article you can read more about Marketing Automation för e-handel!

We will go through the following:

  1. Abandoned shopping cart
  2. Receipts

1. Abandoned shopping cart

Abandoned cart is a follow-up message sent to someone who has added items to their cart and then left the site without making a purchase. These messages work to remind customers of products they have left in their cart, and then entice them back to buy what they were already so close to buying. Here you can read more about Övergiven varukorg

Before we show you step by step how to set up such automation, it is good to know the following:

  • The products need to be submitted from your e-commerce provider via an API call. Either there is an integration to Rule or you can use a third party for this that sends the data to Rule.
  • Then you will need to create a template or order one for the forgotten cart. If you want to start right away, there is a ready-made template that you can use in all accounts, it is located in campaigns and is called "Cart in progress".
  • The fields and data submitted differ between different e-commerce providers. For example, if you have Magento, the field may be sent to Rule as "OrderNumber", if you may have Centra, the field may be sent as "Order", make sure you know what the fields come in as in Rule.

Setting up an abandoned shopping cart:

  1. Click on "Dashboard"
  2. Then into automation

Then click on "New automation" or continue on the one you started to create.

  1. Name your loop
  2. Select tag "CartInProgress"
  3. Create your email (get tips in the next steps under these 6)
  4. Keep building on your automations if you want to send multiple reminders to your customers if they forgot something in their shopping cart. You can add both SMS and email.
  5. When you are satisfied with your mailings, make sure they are marked as "Active".
  6. Remember to activate the whole automation as well.
  7. To schedule, click on the 'Gear'.
  8. Here you can see when it will be sent after you schedule it

When you click on "Add mail" you will get different templates that you can choose, if you have your own "Cart-in-progress" template, use it. Otherwise, there is a template that is open to everyone that you can use.

Remember that this template retrieves data/content from your e-commerce. While you create your mailing how it should look, you will not see the items in the customer's basket in the mail builder. It only appears sharply in mailings to customers because there may be different things in different customers' baskets. Below we show an example of how it will look while you create the mailing vs how the customer receives it.

2. receipts

One of the most common but also most important transactional emails are receipts. For Rule to be able to send receipts, we need the "Event" that an order has been placed. Then the OrderCompleted tag is added to the member, as well as order data. All this is set up automatically when the e-commerce link is in place.

Approach:

Create a "New automation"

  1. Name the loop
  2. Select "Trigger", depending on whether you want to create a mail with order or delivery confirmation. OrderCompleted = Order confirmation, OrderShipped = Delivery confirmation email
  3. Then click on "Add mail" to start creating your mailing.

When you click on "Add mail" you will get different templates that you can choose, if you have your own "Order-Confirmation" or "Shipping-Confirmation" template, use them. Otherwise, there are templates that are open to everyone that you can use.

Note that while you create your mailing how it should look, it will not look the same in the mail builder as when it is sent live as the template retrieves order data from your e-commerce system.

After the emails are created, you should:

  1. Make sure the loop is "Active".
  2. Also check that the emails you want to be sent are marked as "Active".
  3. Schedule by clicking on the "cogwheel"
  4. Here you can then see after you schedule when it is sent
