Examples of Automations

In this article we will go through the different types of Automations you can set up.

We will go through the following:

  1. Step 1 - how to set up an Automation
  2. Welcome email
  3. Congratulations automation
  4. Digital gift cards

1. step 1.

  1. Click on "Dashboard"
  2. And then into "Automation"

To start your automation, click on "New automation".

  1. Name your automation flow
  2. Choose what you want to trigger your automations on, "Tag" or "Filter", if you are not sure what the difference is, there is a simple explanation here!
  3. Choose the trigger, in this case we chose a "Tag" which we named "Welcome Loop".
  4. Here you choose whether to start your automation flow with "Mail" or "SMS".

  1. We chose to start with a "Mail", then you will end up in this view to choose which template, "Custom Super Template" is a template where all the blocks you can imagine needing are located. The blocks you do not need, you can of course remove. If you want to know more about how to build your mail, you can do it here!
  2. There is also a library of other templates you can use

  1. Here you write in "Sender", can be name, company or organization
  2. Enter "Mail address"
  3. Enter your "Heading"
  4. When you make changes inside your email, make sure you always save.
  5. Here you can find the "Image bank" to add images to your emails.
  6. If you want to change your mail template, click on "Change template".
  7. You also have the option to preview all your emails

  1. After you've made your email and saved it, you'll see that your first email is there in your automation feed.
  2. As you can see on both "2", it is still not active yet, so you don't need to worry that something is being sent yet.
  3. Here you see different icons, "edit message", "show statistics", "scheduling" and "delete the mail".
  4. After that, you can continue to expand your flow.

Remember to set each email or SMS only in the loop according to how many days you want something to be sent

  1. After you have finalized your feed as you want it, double check that everything in the feed is checked as "Active".
  2. When you feel completely ready and want the flow to start sending away, you also check "Active" for the entire flow, then it is moved from "Inactive", to "Active".

2. Welcome loop

Follow all of step 1 and you have a "Welcome letter". If you want to extend this automation to more emails or SMS, click on "Add email" or "Add SMS".

Once you have created the emails you want to send. Make sure to schedule this then. Click on the "Gear" to "Edit activity time settings".

Then this view comes up. If you want to send it after one day after the first has been sent out, you fill in "1" where it says "0", there you can of course choose after how many days you want and add "Hours". Then click on "Save".

Then just keep building up as many emails or SMS as you want in this loop. Remember to time and save everything!

3. happy birthday Automation

  • Start by following step 1.
  • Instead of creating a welcome email, create what you want your "Happy Birthday" to look like.
  • Choose a tag that all your members are in. If you are not sure what tags are, you can read more about Tags
  • When scheduling your automation, do the following to send it out on "Date":
  1. Set the trigger type to "Date"
  2. Select custom field "Birthdate"
  3. Select 'is days ago (annually)
  4. Put '0' here
  5. Decide what time of the day you want it to be sent out
  6. Don't forget to save

Done! Your customers/members will now receive a birthday email.

4. digital gift cards

When you create digital gift cards, you as a company choose what your gift cards should look like, what text should be in the gift card and how you want to deliver it to the customer. Your customers, in turn, are free to choose what they want to buy, when and to whom it should be delivered, via which delivery method. The rest of the process is handled by the automated system in Rule.

How do you set this up?

1. create internally a list of unique discount codes that customers can use on your website. Then upload the file with the discount codes to Rule. Read how to do this in our guide. Rabattkoder i Rule

2. Create filter with the rule for the gift card that the customer has purchased. This can differ depending on which e-commerce platform you use and how Rule receives data from these, e.g. it can be via SKU, i.e. article number.

3. The mail for the gift cards is put up in a automation triggered by the filter you have created. You create the email for the automation the way you want the gift cards to look to the recipient.

4. You add the code for the discount codes to the email sent to customers. See below for an example of how this can be included in the email:
